Apple iPhone 11 could have the same OLED display as Samsung Galaxy Note 10
Apple is expected to launch its 2019 iPhone series comprising of the iPhone 11, the iPhone 11 Pro and the iPhone 11 Pro Max at a special event on September 10. Ahead of the official launch event, more details about the upcoming iPhone series have surfaced online. A new report suggests that the Apple's iPhone 11 series could have the same display as the one used in the Samsung Galaxy S10 and the recently launched Samsung Galaxy Note 10.
Supply chain sources told The Elec (via Apple Insider) that two of the three iPhone models that will be launched as a part of the iPhone 11 series - presumably the iPhone XS successor iPhone 11 Pro and the iPhone XS Max successor iPhone 11 Pro Max -- will come with same OLED display as the one found in the premium budget Samsung Galaxy smartphones.
Samsung Display, the Samsung subsidiary, which supplies displays for Apple's iPhones, will use a group of materials known as "M9" in OLED displays of the upcoming iPhone 11 Pro and the iPhone 11 Pro Max. This material set M9 is the same one that was used for making the OLED displays of the Samsung Galaxy S10 and the Galaxy Note 10 smartphones. The iPhone XR successor - presumably the iPhone 11 - will come with an LCD screen.
Samsung Display used a material set known "LT2" for the iPhone X. It was dedicated towards Apple products and was also used in Apple's 2018 iPhones. But now the company is reusing the M9 material set for Apple's upcoming iPhones. This, as per the report, is being done to reduce the number of suppliers who supply materials to the company.
That said, it doesn't mean the iPhone 11 series and Galaxy S10 and Galaxy Note 10 would come with similar screen resolutions. While the iPhone XS and the iPhone XS Max come with a screen density of 458 ppi, Galaxy S10 comes with a screen density of 550 ppi, while Galaxy Note 10 comes with a screen density of 401 pixels.
Separately, Apple is also likely to launch the Watch Series 4 successor - the Apple Watch Series 5 - at its launch event on September 10.
