New Delhi: At least four people, including women and children, have been killed and several more are missing after a boat carrying around three dozen people capsized on the Yamuna River in Banda, Uttar Pradesh on Thursday. Search and rescue operations continue to locate the missing persons.

Banda police said the boat, full of passengers, was traveling from Marka to Jarauli Ghat in Fatehpur district when it capsized in the Yamuna river.

Meanwhile, the news agency ITP it quoted Police Superintendent Abhinandan as saying the boat was carrying 30-35 people. The help of divers is being enlisted to track down the missing, he added.

Additional SP Lakshmi Niwas Mishra reported that seven to eight people swam to safety.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed his sorrow at the loss of life in a boat accident in Banda and expressed his condolences to the grieving families.

The Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), Uttar Pradesh said that CM Adityanath has ordered district administration officials, NDRF and SDRF teams to immediately arrive at the scene and carry out rescue and relief work.
