India has approved Biological E’s Corbevax as a precautionary dose for the population over 18 years of age, Union Secretary Rajesh Bhushan said. It will be administered after six months from the date of administration of the second dose of both vaccines, Covaxin or Covishield.

In a letter to the states, Bhushan said: “Corbevax will be available as a precautionary dose after the completion of 6 months or 26 weeks from the date of administration of the second dose of the Covaxin or Covishield vaccines to the population aged 18 years and older. “.

In particular, this is the first time that a booster dose different from the extinct one for the fundamental vaccination against COVID-19 has been allowed in the country.

“In addition to the new homologous precautionary dose, the probability of a heterologous precautionary dose with Corbevax will be available to all other persons over the age of 18,” Bhushan said in the letter.
